Storytelling with Purpose. Connecting Communities. Amplifying Voices.

ABOUT ME

Shaniyah is a Public Relations student at Florida A&M University whose work is rooted in storytelling, community engagement, and purpose-driven communication. Originally from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, she attended Pittsburgh CAPA 6-12, a creative and performing arts school where she studied theatre. Her early experiences in the arts shaped her ability to connect with people and understand the power of expression, laying the foundation for her future in communication.

Although, she initially questioned the value of higher education, her college experience has become a defining part of her journey. At Florida A&M University, Shaniyah developed not only professionally, but personally, learning how to advocate for herself, explore diverse interests, and build platforms that reflect her voice and purpose. Drawn to HBCU culture and community, she chose FAMU after a meaningful connection that made her feel at home.

During her time at FAMU, Shaniyah has built a dynamic and multifaceted portfolio. She has worked in the university ticket office, getting hands-on experience in customer engagement and fast-paced communication, and contributed to FAMU’s Environmental Health and Safety(EHS), strengthening her professionalism and attention to detail. As a member of the IPREX Student Cohort, she collaborated with peers and professionals worldwide, expanding her perspective on strategic communications.

Shaniyah is also an active leader on campus. As PR chair of the Gamma Alpha Chapter of Zeta Beta Sorority Inc., she leads communication strategies and develops creative campaigns that prioritize authenticity and connection. She is a member of Rampage Step Team, where she not only performs but has also trained and taught her Sorors, contributing to the team earning second place for the first time in seven years.

Her long-term mission is rooted in public service. Shaniyah aspires to pursue a Master’s degree in public administration and build a career in government communications as a Public Information Officer, working to create transparency and accessibility between institutions and the communities they serve, particularly for those who are often overlooked. In addition to her work in public service, she plans to launch a dance nonprofit that empowers youth through creativity, discipline, and community .

Through every role she takes on, Shaniyah remains committed to using communication as a tool for impact.
